Study Scope

Keywords:

Medicine, Health and Life Sciences

Abstract:

The double-fortified salt (DFS) survey was conducted to test the acceptability and intake of salt fortified with both iodine and folic acid (IoFA), in comparison to standard iodized salt (IS). The study also examined how DFS affects biomarkers for folate and iodine status, and whether any serious side effects occurred.

Data Access

Location:

All datasets produced by EPHI are stored at the NDMC.

Special Permissions:

Double-fortified salt containing folic acid and iodine dataset can be accessed from the National Data Management Center (NDMC) at EPHI. An electronic request can be sent via the data repository (https://dataverse.harvard.edu/dataverse/nipn). Alternatively, there is a form to be completed for the data request at the NDMC at the EPHI office in Addis Ababa. After submission of the request (either through the data repository or in paper form), the Director General’s Office, the Nutrition, Environmental Health, and Non-communicable Disease Research Directorate, will consider the request. It will take a few days for approval to be obtained. Upon approval, the dataset will be sent to you via email.

Disclaimer:

The two documents, the “Final DFS Trial Documentation and Metadata” and the “Codebook” for the survey, were produced by the NIPN in Ethiopia with the financial support of the European Union and GIZ. The documents were produced using the protocol, dataset, survey report, and survey questionnaire. The contents contained in the two NIPN produced documents are the sole responsibility of the NIPN and do not reflect the views of the European Union, GIZ, the International Food Policy Research Institute, nor those of the Ethiopian Public Health Institute.
