This dataset is the result of a phone survey set up to measure the impact of COVID-19 on rural people in Ghana. As most governments have urged the population to stay at home to slow down the transmission of the disease, the impact of COVID-19 can affect women and men in different ways: as an income shock (directly or indirectly); as a health and caring shock; as a shock of mobility (affecting access to water, food, firewood, schooling); and as a risk of increased domestic conflict and violence. To capture these various effects on household welfare, this phone survey was conducted with (around) 500 individuals randomly drawn from an existing list of phone numbers collected from previous household surveys with an equal proportion of women and men. The same individuals were also interviewed during other rounds to generate a longitudinal panel allowing to analyze the impact of COVID-19 through time.

A sample of about 500 individuals were drawn using systematic random sampling from an existing list of phone numbers from previous household surveys which were conducted in the Northern region of Ghana. This region was also the Feed the Future zones of influence. The second wave of phone survey was conducted in October-November, 2020 with 500 respondents. Female respondents represents about 49 percent of the sample. The study sample was drawn using systematic random sampling from earlier in-person surveys conducted by IFPRI. Phone surveys done over phone. The attrition rate was about 10 percent.

<p>IFPRI adheres to the principle of unrestricted public access to its own final research outputs and will make such outputs freely available. The Institute encourages the use of the <b>COVID-19 Impact on Rural Men and Women in Ghana, Round 2</b> dataset; for detailed information on its use, please refer to <a href="https://www.ifpri.org/intellectual-property-policy">IFPRI’s Intellectual Property Policy</a>. The data files in this dataset are unit record or ‘raw’ data files. Information that would allow survey respondents to be identified has been deleted from the files, but all other information remains. IFPRI’s decision not to alter the contents of the data files means that the user of these files will need to take care in handling missing observations, outliers, and violations of logical consistency. </p><p>The data are provided ‘as is’ and in no event shall IFPRI be liable for any damages resulting from the use of the data. While great effort was taken to obtain high-quality data, the accuracy or reliability of the data is not guaranteed or warranted in any way.</p>
