The participants were 16 or 17 years old and of mostly upper-middle socioeconomic level. Data were collected in the 11th grade classrooms in the fall of 1975.<br /><br />\n\nThe package of instruments used consisted of four verbal Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) cues; the \"Who am I?\" test, which elicits 10 different open-ended responses to that question; \"The Way I Am\" and \"The Way I Would Like to Be\" scales, which are modified Q-sort descriptions of self and ideal self; and finally, a one-page general information questionnaire consisting of short answer questions about age, family, education, and extracurricular activities.\n<br /><br />\n\nThe Murray Research Archive
