Whilst a 2036 Olympics in India - the bid for which was announced by Prime Minister Modi & seconded in Paris itself by IOC member Nita Ambani, might not be a far-fetched dream, I demonstrate the range of complexities and things to consider in the lead-up to the Games. I take into account India's performance at the Games, its underrepresentation in relation to other national contingents, and the often-politicised question of return on investment to advocate for a threefold policy approach aimed at enhancing our domestic sporting facilities and targeted to boost our capabilities to host an event of such magnitude. In conclusion, I suggest that the Parisian model, which emphasises maximum utilisation of the existing infrastructure and minimal exclusive public investment in the Games might present a desirable prototype that India looks to put to test in 2036.","keywords":["Social Sciences","Other","Olympics","India"],"license":"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0","datePublished":"2024-08-09","dateModified":"2024-08-09","includedInDataCatalog":{"@type":"DataCatalog","name":"Harvard Dataverse","url":"https://dataverse.harvard.edu"},"publisher":{"@type":"Organization","name":"Harvard Dataverse"},"version":"1.0","citeAs":"@data{DVN/NQFBA8_2024,author = {De, Souhardya},publisher = {Harvard Dataverse},title = {India’s Long Game – Empowering Olympians and the Path to a 2036 Summer Olympics},year = {2024},url = {https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/NQFBA8}}","citation":[{"@type":"CreativeWork","name":"De, Souhardya. “India’s Long Game – Empowering Olympians and the Path to a 2036 Summer Olympics.” The Coverage, 5 Aug. 2024, www.the-coverage.co.uk/india-olympics.","@id":"https://www.the-coverage.co.uk/india-olympics","identifier":"https://www.the-coverage.co.uk/india-olympics","url":"https://www.the-coverage.co.uk/india-olympics"}],"distribution":[{"@type":"cr:FileObject","@id":"India Olympics.pdf","name":"India Olympics.pdf","encodingFormat":"application/pdf","md5":"911133c89fb1b3e21cc38dcc7dc661c2","contentSize":"555702","description":"","contentUrl":"https://dataverse.harvard.edu/api/access/datafile/10430996"}]}
