On the basis of a statistical model of relative climatic suitability calibrated on West African cocoa farming areas and average climate projections for the 2030s and 2050s of, respectively, 15 and 19 Global Circulation Models, we divide the region into three adaptation zones: (i) a little affected zone permitting intensification and/or expansion of cocoa farming; (ii) a moderately affected zone requiring diversification and agronomic adjustments of farming practices; and (iii) a severely affected zone with need for progressive crop change. We argue that for tropical agricultural commodities, larger-scale adaptation planning that attempts to balance production trends across countries and regions could help reduce negative impacts of climate change on regional economies and global commodity supplies, despite the institutional challenges that this integration may pose","citation:dsDescriptionDate":"2016-03-10"},"citation:dateOfCollection":{"citation:dateOfCollectionStart":"2012","citation:dateOfCollectionEnd":"2015"},"citation:distributor":{"citation:distributorName":"International Center for Tropical Agriculture","citation:distributorAbbreviation":"CIAT","citation:distributorURL":"http://ciat.cgiar.org/","citation:distributorLogoURL":"http://ciat-library.ciat.cgiar.org/dm_images/CIAT-Logo-255x128.png"},"citation:topicClassification":{"citation:topicClassValue":"Climate change adaptation","citation:topicClassVocab":"AGROVOC","citation:topicClassVocabURI":"http://aims.fao.org/aos/agrovoc/c_1374567058134"},"language":"English","subject":["Earth and Environmental Sciences","Agricultural Sciences"],"title":"Replication Data for: From site-level to regional adaptation planning for tropical commodities: cocoa in West Africa","kindOfData":["Geospatial Data","Climate Data","GIS Data","Tiff files","Shapefiles"],"dateOfDeposit":"2016-03-15","citation:depositor":"Martinez Valle, Armando","@id":"https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/1JMXC6","@type":["ore:Aggregation","schema:Dataset"],"schema:version":"1.7","schema:name":"Replication Data for: From site-level to regional adaptation planning for tropical commodities: cocoa in West Africa","schema:dateModified":"Mon Jul 08 16:07:57 UTC 2019","schema:datePublished":"2016-03-23","schema:creativeWorkStatus":"RELEASED","dvcore:termsOfUse":"
\r\nThese data and documents are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. You may copy, distribute and transmit the data as long as you acknowledge the source through proper data citation.","dvcore:disclaimer":"Whilst utmost care has been taken CIAT and data authors while collecting and compiling the data, the data is however offered \"as is\" with no express or implied warranty.
