The scanned image was processed in Adobe Photoshop to extract just the electoral boundary vectors, and this was saved to a new .jpg image: Electoral_Boundaries.jpg Electoral_Boundaries.jpg was added to ArcMap version 9.2, and georeferenced into the Europe Equidistant Conic coordinate system using a total of 10 control points picked from a combination of the World Countries 2006 (ESRI Data and Maps 9.2) polygon vector layer, and ESRI World Imagery raster basemap. Once georeferenced, the electoral Electoral_Boundaries.jpg raster was reclassified to isolate just the electoral boundaries as one value. The ArcGIS \"Thin\" tool was applied to the Electoral_Boundaries.jpg, reducing the number of cells representing the width of the boundaries. The result from this was converted to polylines. Topology was built for the polyline layer, identifying undershoots and overshoots in the dataset. All topologic errors were fixed, and the polylines were converted to a polygon layer: German1895electoraldistricts. A field of type Short Integer was added to the German1895electoraldistricts layer, named \"district_n\". This fields represents the constituency number in each electoral district. The correct district_n values were entered for all of the polygons. A field of type Text was added\nto the German1895electoraldistricts layer, named \"district\". The district name for each electoral district was entered into this field. Note - not all polygons have district numbers or names, since some of them are islands without districts assigned.
