The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the Rhode Island State Plane Coordinate System NAD83 (in Feet) (Fipszone 3800). All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legen\nds, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as roads, railroads, drainage, selected public buildings, schools, parks, cemeteries, city ward boundaries, and more. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from The Harvard Map Collection as part of the Imaging the Urban Environment project. Vector shapefiles were downloaded from\nthe Rhode Island GIS website which is the official public portal for the state's geospatial data. For this image, the following vector shapefile(s) were used as base maps for reference: Rhode Island Dept. of Transportation's 1:5,000 Roads; Ridotrds06 (2006). The majority of the state's GIS data is stored in the NAD83 Rhode Island StatePlane feet coordinate system, and this digital image was subsequently georeferenced to the same projection. ArcMap 9.2 software was utilized for the georeferencing process, and a .tfwx (world file) was automatically generated and saved in association with the digital image.
