Map quadrangle number: NF50-6. Edition statement: AMS - ed. 1. Printed in April 1959; the source map was compiled in 1954 from the best available large scale maps of China; USHO Chart 3174, 1951. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the Universal Transverse Mercator projection. All map collar information is also available as part of the raster image. AMS Series L500 topographic maps were prepared and printed by the AMS, US Army Corps of Engineers in the 1950s and 1960s. AMS Series L500 maps are in English, with modified Wade-Giles romanized Chinese place and feature names; many names also appear as Chinese ideographs. Each source map in the series is printed in color at a scale of 1:250,000. AMS Series L500 maps are typical topographic maps portraying both natural and manmade features. They show and name works of nature, such as mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers, vegetation, etc. They also identify the principal works of humans, such as roads, railroads, boundaries, transmission lines, major buildings, etc. Relief is shown with standard contour intervals of 100 meters, with some sheets having supplemental 50 meter contours, form lines, and/or spot heights. Please pay close attention to map collar information on projections, spheroid, planimetric revision methods and dates, and keys to grid numbering and other numbers which appear inside the neatline."}}]},{"typeName":"topicClassification","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"topicClassValue":{"typeName":"topicClassValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"imageryBaseMapsEarthCover"},"topicClassVocab":{"typeName":"topicClassVocab","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"ISO 19115 Topic Category"}},{"topicClassValue":{"typeName":"topicClassValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Maps, Topographic"},"topicClassVocab":{"typeName":"topicClassVocab","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"LCSH"}},{"topicClassValue":{"typeName":"topicClassValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Land use"},"topicClassVocab":{"typeName":"topicClassVocab","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"LCSH"}},{"topicClassValue":{"typeName":"topicClassValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Infrastructure"},"topicClassVocab":{"typeName":"topicClassVocab","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"LCSH"}},{"topicClassValue":{"typeName":"topicClassValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Human settlements"},"topicClassVocab":{"typeName":"topicClassVocab","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"LCSH"}},{"topicClassValue":{"typeName":"topicClassValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Bodies of water"},"topicClassVocab":{"typeName":"topicClassVocab","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"LCSH"}},{"topicClassValue":{"typeName":"topicClassValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Landforms"},"topicClassVocab":{"typeName":"topicClassVocab","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"LCSH"}}]},{"typeName":"producer","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"producerName":{"typeName":"producerName","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Harvard Map Collection, Harvard College Library"}},{"producerName":{"typeName":"producerName","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Harvard Map Collection, Harvard College Library"}}]},{"typeName":"productionDate","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"N/A"},{"typeName":"distributor","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"distributorName":{"typeName":"distributorName","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Harvard Geospatial Library"}}]},{"typeName":"timePeriodCovered","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"timePeriodCoveredStart":{"typeName":"timePeriodCoveredStart","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"1954"}}]},{"typeName":"kindOfData","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["map"]}]},"geospatial":{"displayName":"Geospatial Metadata","name":"geospatial","fields":[{"typeName":"geographicCoverage","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"otherGeographicCoverage":{"typeName":"otherGeographicCoverage","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"China"}}]},{"typeName":"geographicBoundingBox","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"westLongitude":{"typeName":"westLongitude","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"115.324355"},"eastLongitude":{"typeName":"eastLongitude","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"117.167049"},"northLatitude":{"typeName":"northLatitude","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"23.102272"},"southLatitude":{"typeName":"southLatitude","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"21.779524"}}]}]},"socialscience":{"displayName":"Social Science and Humanities Metadata","name":"socialscience","fields":[{"typeName":"samplingProcedure","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"This digital image was georeferenced to a shapefile containing the four sets of UTM grid coordinates nearest to the corner tics of each map image. The coordinates were projected in UTM_WGS_1984 with the appropriate UTM Zone (44_N through 51_N). Because the AMS did not publish this map series\nwith an associated horizontal datum, the widely used WGS_1984 datum was applied to each image in order to provide a consistent, standardized coordinate system to use across the entire collection of AMS L500 Series China maps. Horizontal accuracy is therefore not as good as it would be if the datum(s) were known. ArcMap 9.0 was utilized to georeference the image to the four projected control points, and a .tfw (world file) was generated. The RMS error was recorded and a world file (automatically generated by ArcMap) was saved in association with the scanned image. The horizontal positional accuracy of a raster image is approximately the same as the accuracy of the published source map. However, there may be errors introduced during the digitizing and georeferencing process. In most cases, errors in the raster image are small compared with sources of error in the original map graphic. The RMS error for this map is: 40.58171 meters. RMS: The degree to which the transformation can accurately map all control points can be measured mathematically by comparing the actual location of the map coordinate to the transformed position in the raster. The distance between these two points is known as the residual error. The total error is computed by taking the root mean square (RMS) sum of all the residuals to compute the RMS error. This value describes how consistent the transformation is between the different control points (links). The RMS error is only an assessment of the accuracy of the transformation."}]}},"files":[{"description":"","label":"TIFF","restricted":false,"version":1,"datasetVersionId":20713,"dataFile":{"id":2334326,"persistentId":"","filename":"TIFF","contentType":"application/octet-stream","friendlyType":"Unknown","filesize":0,"description":"","storageIdentifier":"http://hgl.harvard.edu:8080/HGL/jsp/HGL.jsp?action=VColl&VCollName=AMS7810_S250_U54_NF50_6","rootDataFileId":-1,"md5":"","checksum":{"type":"MD5","value":""},"tabularData":false,"creationDate":"2015-04-08","publicationDate":"2011-12-12","lastUpdateTime":"2011-12-13T18:47:07Z","fileAccessRequest":false}}]}}}
