This map shows coastal features such as lighthouses, buoys, beacons, rocks, channels, points, coves, islands, bottom soil types, wharves, and more. Includes also selected land features such as roads, railr\noads, drainage, land cover, selected buildings, towns, and more. Relief shown by coutours (20 foot intervals) and spot heights; depths by soundings. Includes table of references (public buildings, etc.). This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from The Harvard Map Collection as part of the Imaging the Urban Environment project. Maps selected for this project represent major urban areas and cities of the world, at various time periods. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features at a large scale. Vector shapefiles were downloaded from the San Francisco Enterprise GIS website which is the official public portal for the city's geospatial data. Additional shapefiles from ESRI Data and Maps 2005 and NOAA Vector Shoreline were used if necessary. For this image, the following vector shapefile(s) were used as base maps for reference: ESRI Data\n& Maps 2005 : U.S. Detailed Streets (1:50,000). In addition to vector data, this image was also linked to other georeferenced, paper map(s): United States Coast Survey's San Francisco Peninsula, 1869. The image was georeferenced to and stored in the NAD83 State Plane California Zone III (feet) (FIPS 0403) coordinate system. ArcMap 9.2 software was utilized for the georeferencing process, and a .tfwx (world file) and an .aux.xml file were automatically generated and saved in association with the\ndigital image.
