Covers Boston Harbor, Boston Harbor Islands, portions of the Charles River, the Mystic River, Boston, Winthrop, Revere, Chelsea, Everett, Somerville, Cambridge, and Hull, Massachusetts. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the M\nassachusetts State Plane Coordinate System, Mainland Zone (in Feet) (Fipszone 2001). All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as the Harbor Commissioners' lines, wharves, drainage, rivers, islands, roads, railroads, bridges, selected buildings, the contemporary and historic (circa 1630) Boston shoreline and more. Harbor depths are shown by contours. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps of Massachusetts from the Harvard Map Collection. For this image, the following vector shapefiles were used as base maps for reference: MassGIS Massachusetts Highway Department Roads 2002 (1:100,000). The vector data was projected to Massachusetts State Plane Coordinate System, Mainland Zone (in Feet) (Fipszone 2001), NAD 1983, and the images were subsequently georeferenced to the same projection.
