The agency used these files to simulate the administrative and revenue impact of any actual or proposed changes in the tax laws and to provide general statistical data to the public. This series includes information from a sample of filed income tax returns recorded on Internal Revenue Service Forms 1040 and 1040A and the associated schedules. Da\nta includes sex, marital status, number of dependents, taxable income, dividends, interest paid and received, and deductions claimed. Certain data, such as name, address, Social Security number, and document location number have been deleted to prevent identification of individual taxpayers. These files are an augmented version of the 1977 and 1978 files from the series \"Individual Income Tax Model Files\" (ARC Identifier 646643). The records also include a state of residence identifier and the files exclude cases where the adjusted gross income of the tax filer is $200,000 or more.\n
