This series contains sample data obtained from returns of tax-exempt or nonprofit organizations that were required to file income tax Form 990 or Form 990 EZ. This includes organizations exempt from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) section 501(c)(3) because they were organized and operated exclusively for one or more of the following purposes: charita\nble; religious; educational; scientific; literary; testing for public safety; fostering national or international amateur sports competition (but only if none of its activities involve providing athletic facilities or equipment); and the prevention of cruelty to children or animals. Also included are organizations qualified for exemption from federal income tax under IRC sections 501(c)(4)-(9) because they were organized and operated exclusively for one or more of the following purposes: civic leagues and social welfare organizations; labor, agricultural, and horticultural organizations; business leagues; social and recreation clubs; fraternal beneficiary societies and domestic fraternal societies; and employees' associations. The data is organized in five record types. The first is C(3) data containing data for those organizations exempt under IRC section 501(c)(3) and who filed Form 990. The second type is C(3) EZ data containing data for exempt organizations exempt under IRC section 501(c)(3) and filed Form 990 EZ. The third type is C(4-9) data containing data for organizations exempt under IRC sections 501(c)(4)-(9) and who filed Form 990. The fourth type is C(4-9) EZ data containing data for organizations exempt under IRC sections 501(c)(4)-(9) and who filed Form 990 EZ. The fifth type, beginning in 1993, is Part V data containing data about compensations made to officers, directors, trustees, and key employees provided on Form 990 in Part V.\n
