The agency used the HAPS database to measure the amount of toxins present in the air throughout the country and some territories, develop regulations for each source category, and to assess public health and environmental impacts after the regulation\ns were put into effect. This series contains records that track those 188 hazardous air pollutants listed in the Clean Air Act, by identifying their sources and quantifying the emissions by source category. The HAPS database includes data on all point, area, and mobile sources of emissions. Emission sources are categorized by the source of the emission that emanates from it. Point sources are generally large grounded facilities that emit above a specified threshold. Area sources are either stationary point sources whose facility - specific emissions can be inventoried individually, or are sources whose emissions are estimated through \"top-down\" methods. They include both nonpoint and nonroad sources of emissions. Mobile sources include moving vehicles or equipment. The HAPS data is organized into files containing measures of these pollutants for these four source categories in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. There are also files with summary data.\n
