This series consists of a file with one record for each county and incorporated city in the United States. The file is also known as the 1960 Census Putnam File, named after its compiler, Israel Putnam. The file consists of five geographic identification codes followed by 466 varia\nbles, which are organized into seven tables. The first two tables have counts of families with white and non-white heads, and the number of families by size from two through 16 members or more, by twelve income categories at $1,000 intervals. The next two tables provide the same income data for white and non-white individuals not in families and with incomes less than $5,000. All four tables have counts of families or individuals below the poverty cut-off. The fifth table has counts of individuals, not in families, defined as in poverty, by sex and by five age ranges. The sixth table provides the same data on individuals who are members of families. The last table has counts of family heads by race, sex, and age group.\n
