The agency used these data to prepare reports on the conditions and operations of each savings and loan association. The agency prepared and published the \"Combined Statements of Conditions\" (semiannual) and the \"Combined Statements of Operations\" (semiannual) from these files. This series consists of data from semiannual reports from member institutions of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB) system\n. FHLBB institutions were savings and loan associations, also sometimes known as \"thrifts.\" Institutions with federally insured accounts reported for both a January through June cycle, known as the June cycle, and a July through December cycle, known as the December cycle. Institutions without federally insured accounts were required to submit reports for the December cycle only and stopped reporting after 1971. In general, each record covers one institution and has eight sections: Assets (section A), Liabilities (section B), Net Worth (section C), Income (section D), Expense (section E), Slow Loans and Other Scheduled Items (section F), Supplemental Data (section G), and Account Balances (section H). As such, each record provides a detailed statement of the financial condition of the identified institution, as well as a statement on its operations for the preceding six months. Each record may also include an extensive summary of mortgage loan activity by real estate type such as single family and multi-family dwellings; by mortgage loan type such as Veterans Administration (VA), Federal Housing Administration (FHA), or conventional mortgage loans; and by slow repayment and/or foreclosures. From 1973 to 1983, institution names and addresses are included.\n
