This series contains monthly data on the total number of policemen within the South Vietnamese National Police Force by both administrative unit and assigned police function. There are three categories of data: 1) total police strength of administrative units by police function, 2) police strength temporarily assigned to other po\nlice units by police function, and 3) police strength assigned to rural areas. Category 1 data includes police unit location code, date (month and year), and the number of police assigned to judicial affairs, traffic control and patrol, administrative investigation, immigration and foreign control, individual identification, scientific investigation, special police duties, resources control, national police field force, marine police, and other duties. Category 2 includes police unit location code, date, identification code of the police unit to which assigned, specific functions to which the detachment was assigned, and number of police involved. Category 3 includes police unit identification code, date, location to which assigned, and number of police involved.\n
