The files were also used to assess the ability of local forces to provide territorial security and expand pacification throughout South Vietnam. This series consist of two parts known as the Vietnamese / United States System (VNUS) and the Territorial Forces Evaluation System (TFES). Both parts contain monthly\nreport data on the combat effectiveness of regional and popular forces within South Vietnam for over 7,000 Regional and Popular Force units located in 290 districts of the Republic of (South) Vietnam during the Vietnamese Conflict. Each VNUS record contains geographic and unit identifiers; number and type(s) of military operation(s); friendly killed, wounded, or missing in action; deserted, and weapons lost; and enemy killed in action, captured, and weapons lost. There are two types of TFES records, unit records and district records. Each TFES unit record contains geographic and unit identifiers; record of basic, refresher, and Motivation Indoctrination Program training; unit priority rating; a count of weapons, vehicles, and other resources allocated, issued, and operational; and administrative information on the number of soldiers supported, married, paid, deserted, inducted, and authorized. TFES also includes information on the type of mission, mission performance, leader's performance and attitudes, unit's planning, preparation, and use of information, and the unit's interaction with the local populace. Each district record in TFES contains geographic and unit identifiers; number and type(s) of military operation(s); friendly killed, wounded, or\nmissing in action, deserted and weapons lost; and enemy killed in action, captured, and returned.\n
