The agency produced summary statistic data files for researchers. This series contains summary data from an enumeration of business establishments engaged in metal mining, anthracite mining, bituminous coal and lignite mining, oil and gas extraction, and mining and quarrying of nonmetallic minerals, except fuels.The Census of Miner\nal Industries files from 1972 consist of five files (MI1 through MI5). MI1 has general statistics by Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code at the 2-, 3-, and 4-digit level including the number of mineral establishments, the number of employees, payroll, and the number of workers in production development and exploration activities. MI1 also includes information on value added in mining, cost of supplies and purchased machinery installed, value of shipments and receipts, and capital expenditure. MI1 data are for the U.S., regions, divisions, states, and counties with 100 or more employees of mineral industries establishments. MI2 has detailed statistics for 2-, 3-, and 4-digit SIC codes in addition to cost of supplies by selected materials (energy products), mineral development, and exploration expenditures. MI2 data are by the industry level for the U.S. MI3 gives general statistics, as outlined in MI1, by employment-size of establishment, with summaries presented at the 2-, 3-, and 4-digit SIC industry level. MI3 data are by the industry level for the U.S. MI4 data are establishment counts by 2-digit SIC groups by 10 employment size classes for divisions and states. MI5 has summaries for establishment counts by\n2-digit SIC groups by four employment size classes by state and county. Available from the 1987 Census of Mineral Industries are Geographic Area Series statistics. Data are provided for the U.S., states, and counties for industries with 100 or more employees and include the number of establishments, number of employees, payroll, value of shipments, value added, cost of materials, and capital expenditures. Data are presented for 2-, 3-, and 4-digit SIC code.The 1992 Census of Mineral Industries is comprised of four parts: Geographic Area Series, Final Industry Series, Fuels and Electric Energy Consumed, and Final General Summary files. Geographic Area Statistics files contain summary data for 2-, 3-, and 4-digit SIC codes by state and counties. Summary data include employment, value of shipments, payroll, number of establishments, value added, capital expenditures, and cost of materials and fuel. Some comparative data from the 1977 through 1987 censuses are included. The Final Industry Series files include data on the number of establishments, employment, payroll, value of shipments, value added, capital expenditures, and other statistics, classified by 4-digit SIC. Also available are product statistics and data on the delivered cost and quantity of selected materials and fuels consumed. The Fuels and Electric Energy Consumed files include data on total energy consumed by major group, purchased fuels and electricity consumed by industry and state, and total energy consumed by industry and states and offshore areas. Final General Summary files contain the data shown in the printed 1992 Census of Mineral Industries Final General Summary report and include establishment-based industry statistics, geographic area statistics, and miscellaneous statistics. The files summarize the data in the Geographic Area Series and Final Industry Series files.\n
