The agency produced summary statistic data files for researchers. This series consists of summary statistic data from the 1974 and 1987 Censuses of Agriculture. The 1974 Files from the Census of Agriculture consist of two sub-series: County Data (File A)and Miscellaneous D\nata (File B). File A presents data for number and size of farms and for farms having gross sales of $2,500 or more. Data also include farm acreage, farm operations, land in farms, land use practices, income and sales, expenditure, machinery, and equipment. In addition, information is presented for livestock, poultry, livestock and poultry products, farm crops harvested, nursery and greenhouse products, and forest products. File B presents selected crops and livestock not available in File A (localized and/or miscellaneous agricultural products that could not economically be included in the File A standard report), and also shows race and ethnicity of farm operators. Comparable data from the 1969 Census of Agriculture are shown where applicable. The 1987 files from the Census of Agriculture include Advance Report Data; County and State Summary Data; Government Payments and Market Value of Products Sold; Detailed State Data; and ZIP-Code Tabulation Statistics. The Advance Report, County and State Summary Data, and Detailed State Data files have data for all farms and for all farms with sales of $10,000 or more. The County and State Summary Data files also contain comparative data from the 1978 and 1982 censuses. The Detailed State Data file contains some comparative data from the 1982 census. Data include number of farms; land in farms; size of farms; value of land, buildings, value of machinery and equipment; characteristics of operator; selected production expenses; total cropland; irrigation of farm land; value of agricultural products sold; inventory and sale of livestoc\nk and poultry; and major crops harvested. The Government Payments and Market Value of Products Sold files have data that combine government payments value of agricultural products sold to provide a more accurate measure of the true economic size of farms. The files contain the same items reported in the Advance Report, County and State Summary Data, and Detailed State Data files. The ZIP-Code Tabulation Statistics files have farm count information for all ZIP-Codes with five or more farms. Farm counts are available for farms, land in farms, market value of agricultural products sold, cattle and calves inventory, hogs and pigs inventory, cropland harvested and selected crops.\n
