Second, it identifies metropolitan centers endogenously instead of determining them exogenously. And third, it takes metropolitan subcenters explicitly into account. An empirical illustration is used to show that the approach tends to delineate fewer but larger metropolitan areas in densely populated regions, and smaller metropolitan areas in sparsely populated regions."}}]},{"typeName":"publication","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"publicationCitation":{"typeName":"publicationCitation","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"View Publication in Economists Online
View Publication in EconStor"}}]},{"typeName":"producer","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"producerName":{"typeName":"producerName","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Kiel Institute for the World Economy"}}]},{"typeName":"productionDate","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2008"},{"typeName":"distributor","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"distributorName":{"typeName":"distributorName","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Dataverse Network"},"distributorAbbreviation":{"typeName":"distributorAbbreviation","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"DVN"}}]},{"typeName":"dateOfDeposit","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2009-06-23"},{"typeName":"timePeriodCovered","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"timePeriodCoveredStart":{"typeName":"timePeriodCoveredStart","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"1995"},"timePeriodCoveredEnd":{"typeName":"timePeriodCoveredEnd","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2001"}}]},{"typeName":"kindOfData","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["survey data"]},{"typeName":"dataSources","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["GENESIS"]}]},"geospatial":{"displayName":"Geospatial Metadata","name":"geospatial","fields":[{"typeName":"geographicCoverage","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"otherGeographicCoverage":{"typeName":"otherGeographicCoverage","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"West Germany"}}]}]},"socialscience":{"displayName":"Social Science and Humanities Metadata","name":"socialscience","fields":[{"typeName":"universe","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["Metropolitan areas"]}]}},"files":[{"description":"","label":"Table A2.xls","restricted":false,"version":1,"datasetVersionId":50068,"dataFile":{"id":1510001,"persistentId":"doi:10.7910/DVN/YO4WGX/JGMDE3","pidURL":"https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/YO4WGX/JGMDE3","filename":"Table A2.xls","contentType":"application/vnd.ms-excel","friendlyType":"MS Excel Spreadsheet","filesize":37376,"description":"","storageIdentifier":"s3://dvn-cloud:48711","rootDataFileId":-1,"md5":"ecb2ab67823b1bd65ec084fb0353d802","checksum":{"type":"MD5","value":"ecb2ab67823b1bd65ec084fb0353d802"},"tabularData":false,"creationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationDate":"2010-01-06","lastUpdateTime":"2010-12-08T16:38:10Z","fileAccessRequest":false}}]}}}
