We begin by replicating the results from “Contextual Factors and the Extreme Right Vote in Western Europe, 1980-2002” by Arzheimer (2009), which finds that immigration (measured by the number of asylum seekers) and unemployment have positive marginal effects and, counterintuitively, a negative interaction effect. We challenge Arzheimer’s (2009) employment of asylum seekers as a proxy for immigration and instead suggest two alternate, more direct measures: net migration and percent of foreign population. Using these new measures, we find a positive interaction effect between immigration and unemployment."},"dsDescriptionDate":{"typeName":"dsDescriptionDate","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2011-04-28"}}]},{"typeName":"keyword","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"keywordValue":{"typeName":"keywordValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Extreme Right"}}]},{"typeName":"publication","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"publicationCitation":{"typeName":"publicationCitation","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Arzheimer, Kai. 2009. \"Contextual Factors and the Extreme Right Vote in Western Europe, 1980-2002.\" American Journal of Political Science 53 (2): 259-275"}}]},{"typeName":"productionDate","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2011-05-08"},{"typeName":"dateOfDeposit","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2011-05-08"},{"typeName":"timePeriodCovered","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"timePeriodCoveredStart":{"typeName":"timePeriodCoveredStart","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"1980"},"timePeriodCoveredEnd":{"typeName":"timePeriodCoveredEnd","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2002"}}]},{"typeName":"relatedMaterial","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["Original data from the Arzheimer (2009) study, used in this paper, can be found at Kai Arzheimer's IQSS Dataverse at: http://hdl.handle.net/1902.1/12092."]}]},"geospatial":{"displayName":"Geospatial Metadata","name":"geospatial","fields":[{"typeName":"geographicCoverage","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"otherGeographicCoverage":{"typeName":"otherGeographicCoverage","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Europe"}}]}]}},"files":[{"description":"Foreign Population data.","label":"foreign population.csv","restricted":false,"version":1,"datasetVersionId":61224,"categories":["Data"],"dataFile":{"id":2296276,"persistentId":"doi:10.7910/DVN/NCKJRN/85DUQE","pidURL":"https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/NCKJRN/85DUQE","filename":"foreign population.csv","contentType":"text/plain; charset=US-ASCII","friendlyType":"Plain Text","filesize":2500,"description":"Foreign Population data.","categories":["Data"],"storageIdentifier":"s3://dvn-cloud:67670","rootDataFileId":-1,"md5":"51256da3fc8179a99d5f1c14c2b02c5d","checksum":{"type":"MD5","value":"51256da3fc8179a99d5f1c14c2b02c5d"},"tabularData":false,"creationDate":"2011-05-08","publicationDate":"2011-05-08","lastUpdateTime":"2011-05-09T00:05:43Z","fileAccessRequest":false}},{"description":"Net Migration data.","label":"migration.csv","restricted":false,"version":1,"datasetVersionId":61224,"categories":["Data"],"dataFile":{"id":2296275,"persistentId":"doi:10.7910/DVN/NCKJRN/UZTEUH","pidURL":"https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/NCKJRN/UZTEUH","filename":"migration.csv","contentType":"text/plain; charset=US-ASCII","friendlyType":"Plain Text","filesize":14650,"description":"Net Migration data.","categories":["Data"],"storageIdentifier":"s3://dvn-cloud:67669","rootDataFileId":-1,"md5":"e4936e63fd10b60e7924fd36703f3388","checksum":{"type":"MD5","value":"e4936e63fd10b60e7924fd36703f3388"},"tabularData":false,"creationDate":"2011-05-08","publicationDate":"2011-05-08","lastUpdateTime":"2011-05-09T00:05:43Z","fileAccessRequest":false}},{"description":"Replication code in R.","label":"Replication Code.R","restricted":false,"version":1,"datasetVersionId":61224,"categories":["Code"],"dataFile":{"id":2296274,"persistentId":"doi:10.7910/DVN/NCKJRN/S2IFHX","pidURL":"https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/NCKJRN/S2IFHX","filename":"Replication Code.R","contentType":"text/plain; charset=US-ASCII","friendlyType":"Plain Text","filesize":15449,"description":"Replication code in R.","categories":["Code"],"storageIdentifier":"s3://dvn-cloud:67668","rootDataFileId":-1,"md5":"f6000ef454095ff7fec9765ee4ba5f8e","checksum":{"type":"MD5","value":"f6000ef454095ff7fec9765ee4ba5f8e"},"tabularData":false,"creationDate":"2011-05-08","publicationDate":"2011-05-08","lastUpdateTime":"2011-05-09T00:05:43Z","fileAccessRequest":false}}]}}}
